The future of Gallows End

Since its inception, Gallows End has been a fairly free, family-style guild whose only objective is to have fun together. Unfortunately this hasn’t been enough, the guild has been slowly declining in the past several months. We’ve lost members who are looking for a guild who can run the larger instances, or at least have enough for in-guild small instance runs. Our officers have recognized that, without a major overhaul, the guild does not and will not help members achieve the next level of game play.

GE has several paths it can take:

1) No growth strategy -- Remain as it is, small and usually without the right classes online to run even small instances. As the members advance beyond a certain point, they leave for guilds who meet their needs.

2) Aggressive “MC” growth strategy – Aim to be a serious, high-end guild whose objective is to beat Molten Core and get epics as soon as possible. This would entail changing the guild culture drastically. GE would no longer be a do-as-you-like guild, but would instead instate mandatory participation in guild instance runs whenever we have enough numbers on. We would progress from UBRS to ZG to MC / Onyxia, having a heavy emphasis on gearing up rapidly. We would have to merge several times with other serious, like-minded guilds in order to achieve the necessary numbers.

3) Family-style growth strategy – Aim to grow, but maintain the fairly free atmosphere. We would aim to build a guild that is capable of ZG and MC, but our primary goal is to have fun. We would offer the flexibility to choose between PVP or raids in general, but we’d probably require some level of participation in organized, scheduled guild raids. We would add to our ranks by recruiting others who are friendly and fun, while still demonstrating a competence that shows they can do effective team strategy after some training / experience.

The guild officers believe option 3 to be the best fit for our guild. Details in how to roll out the recruitment plan are in the works, but in the meantime, keep an eye out for people who are friendly, fun and demonstrate a willingness to look after the needs of a group rather than just him/herself. They don’t have to be experienced in raids, but they need to show that they are competent and willing enough to learn.

Also, keep an eye out for potential guild merger candidates. The merger candidate would have to have members that, in general, meet the qualifications for individual candidates. The guild as a whole must share our desire for a goal-oriented, but free and fun environment.

Hey guys its Rage...I like

Hey guys its Rage...I like #3 but we should really reconsider the "Family-style." It really limits the growth of our guild.

Rage, you're right, let's

Rage, you're right, let's definitely consider.

What elements of "Family-style" are things that prevent the possibility of growth?

So I made the earlier

So I made the earlier statement:

"The guild officers believe option 3 to be the best fit for our guild"

Actually that was just the way we were leaning, I didn't mean to make it sound so definitive. Unfortunately, I can't edit the original post.

I say...we start recruiting

I say...we start recruiting whoever is willing to join GE and not just people we know IRL, while making sure those that join GE promise to keep a friendly and enjoyable enviroment. Of course anyone with the right status will be able to invite whoever they feel fit. For example, if u quested or instance with that person and you feel he/she will be beneficial in more ways than one, then go ahead make your decision. Most importantly we have to be patient with GE...allow time for the growth of the guild and we shall take it one step at a time from that point on..

Good idea. I've begun to

Good idea. I've begun to recruit like u suggest, and I've also been looking out for smaller guilds who seem cool. I'm currently looking for guilds that are even smaller than GE, that way we can maintain our presence more in the merged guild.

If you want to get a feel for whether someone or some group will be a good fit or not, have them run an instance with us.

But you're right Rage, let's all recruit!

Yo, this is Justin. I'm too

Yo, this is Justin. I'm too lazy to register my own login and junk, so I just logged in under Python's. Anyways, so I noticed the guild message saying to check this website, yet only 2 people responded. I'll transfer GM powers to Mr. Pee next time I see him on because Mr. Pee seems like the most active in getting something done (and I know where he lives! muhahaha!). Personally, I'd go with option#1 or #2. I just don't think option# 3 is gonna work. #1 seems like the lazy choice, #2 seems like the hardcore choice and #3 seems like the middle choice, which in my book is let's "try" not to be lazy (yeah, and we can guess how thats gonna end up). Either way, that's just my 10cents, I'll go along with whatever. Question, you say officers lean this way or that way...isn't everyone by now an officer, yet only 2 people responded? I think first you need structure...cuz yeah, you just do.

Also, this checking the website/forum thing...not working buddy. You gotta hit up everyone in guild individually to see whats up, or go "Iron Fist" style and just decree whats gonna happen.

As far as recruiting goes, dudes, you can't start recruiting when you don't even have the foundation down.

Peace out, back to work. SOCIAL DISTORTION OWNED ME!!!!

I think there is a large

I think there is a large spectrum of guild styles between options 1 and 2, I provided those options as polar points for comparison. I hope that we aren't just "let's try not to be lazy," despite GE's history of laziness.

I think there's a lot to be said for the benefits of a casual guild. Perhaps I'm exaggerating the faults of a power guild in my own mind, but it seems to me that the seriousness of those guilds prevents you from having fun. I personally wouldn't consider a guild that doesn't allow you the ability to grow your characters with your non-serious friends. Neither would I consider a guild where more than 40% of my playtime is already spoken for by recurring guild-mandated activities. I don't have an "epics now or bust" mentality, and I believe the GE people who do have already moved on.

The only frustration with our guild is that it doesn't offer the ability to participate in end-game content. I'm hoping that the problem will be fixed by sheer numbers in membership.

I completely agree with you on the leadership though, we're currently lacking the commitment to guild duties. Your continued advice is very much appreciated Justin, you're definitely the most experienced in guild infrastructure.
