  • Wasteland is one of the best RPGs and best games ever made. It features party based exploration and combat on a bird's eye view map. There are many things to do and see in Wasteland and the atmosphere is great. Wasteland is one a post apocalyptic RPG set in the sands around Las Vegas.

In Wasteland, you play a team of Rangers that recently "liberated" your jail facilities following a nuclear holocaust. Your mission is to help clean up the disorder that typically follows one of those events and find the source behind it. So lock and load soldier, and make us proud out there!

Wasteland is one of the few RPGs that are set in relatively modern times. It features a great combat system, as well as a great skill system. Everything from Toaster Repair to Safecracking is learnable (and useful) in the game and there are more skills you are able to pick up as you progress in the story (dont you love Clone tech? :). The first part of the game involves mopping up the baddies in the nearby communities but soon you stumble upon the real story of the game, which I'll leave up to you to discover. Wasteland is a great traditional RPG. It has a great and involving story and freedom for your troops to explore the land and encounter people (and consquences). Want to kick it in the casino and make some money? You can. Get tired of it and feel like putting some rounds in the patrons? You can! You can even sneak a peek at Faran Brygo hard at work at Wasteland II (apparently before they pulled the plug on it) and decide to try to chuck a few rounds into him for good measure. Wasteland is the gold standard of RPGs, and few games since can match its appeal and depth.

Bottom line: Get this game, and play it. It's available for _free_ in the November CD-ROM of Computer Gaming World.
